Jon the Dentist is a true legend. From the early 1990’s his career rose out of the techno scene flourishing as he and Baby Doc invented Nu Energy music, which was the portent and pioneering creation that led to hard house.
In 1993 Jon the Dentist performed at Germany’s Mayday event in Dortmund in front of a 30 000 arena crowd. It was the last techno event he was to do: on that same night he was driven to a gig in Frankfurt and in that car was blasted with four hours of ‘Trance’, a music form he didn’t know about. It transformed his life. Now 17 years later it is true to say JTD has become a trance legend. He has dj’d all over the world, including huge arena and festival events in Holland (Dance Valley), Switzerland, Japan, UAE, Belgium, Italy, Finland, Spain, France, Germany, Canada and the USA to name but a few countries.
As a global brand Jon the Dentist has sold over a millions copies of his productions in one form or another on such prestigious labels as Sony, EMI, Tidy Trax and Hooj Choons. He has remixed for the likes of Carl Cox, Tony de Vit, The Source, Vincent de Moor, and Tiesto. He has successfully run record labels, Phoenix Uprising and Phoenix Platinum, as well as Boscaland and Bosca Beats. From these labels he has licensed music all over the world and to some massive CD collections.
His banner moment in Dj’ing was through his involvement with one of the most influential and pioneering events in North America, The WEMF festivals in Toronto, Canada. He has also appeared at the Winter Music Conference in Miami.
In 2004 he retired from djing and production to concentrate on his family but this show heralds a comeback as he has never lost touch with the music he loves.
As he says “Now is an amazing and exciting time for dance music. Trance has changed and so has progressive house music, now the meeting in the middle is a sumptuous blend of production brilliance and I am chomping at the bit to use my radio show to exemplify this wonderful fusion”
His plans for the next year are straightforward: to provide a show at the cutting edge of dance music that puts a smile on people’s faces every week without being pompous and taking itself too seriously. There will be forays into the studio, occasionally, and there will be djing guest spots here and there, but the emphasis is on the radio show and a place for people to go and access a real stalwart of the scene whose music taste is second to none. One guarantee- there will be no boring tracks on this show and if you do catch him playing out you will know you’ve never experienced a set like it!
